Lessons from the Great Depression - Lawrence Reed
If you want some real insight into the insidious effects of the controls that Obama and his Dems are all about, listen to this very informative speech. One of the products of the Great Depression was an increasing group of dependants on the Welfare state - call them loyal Democrat voters - and a "conventional wisdom" that government intervention helped "save" the country. The fact is, the depression was longer and much more severe precisely due to the government's influence and attempts to "fix" things. The false "lesson" of that period has been perpetuated in the public mind and, not suprisingly, the Democrat Party learned a huge lesson from it too. If they can keep people believing that government is the savior, then when hard times come more and more voters become clients of the Democrat party.
